Milia in St. Louis
Milia are keratin filled cysts that appear just below the epidermis. They are milk colored and usually appear around the nose and eyes. In children, they will usually disappear within one to two weeks. For adults, they can be removed by a Dermatologist.
Milia may disappear on their own, but they usually persist in adults. The physicians at the Laser & Dermatologic Surgery Center in St. Louis may treat the bumps with the following procedures:
- Pierce each milium with a sterile lancet or scalpel followed by removal of the lesion with a blunt tool called a comedone extractor
- Topical vitamin A creams
- A series of acid peels or microdermabrasion procedures at the dermatologist’s office to exfoliate the top layer of skin.
Regardless of the treatment choice, it is important not to pick or squeeze a milium as that may cause further damage. Make an appointment today to discuss which procedure is best for you.
