As a rule, if a lesion is growing rapidly (i.e., significant change over a one-to-three-month period), bleeding spontaneously, or painful, it is worth further evaluation. Similarly, if you notice a mole that is changing in size, shape, or color, schedule an appointment. Also, an expanding rash or one that includes other symptoms like fever, or any sign of infection, should be evaluated.
